This initiative, originally proposed by Mayor Jacob Frey, has gained momentum following a city survey that received over 1,200 responses from parents expressing support for the project.
The proposed indoor playground aims to address the current lack of child-friendly amenities in downtown Minneapolis, especially when compared to neighboring St. Paul. Many parents have noted the need to travel to suburban areas for kid-oriented activities, highlighting a gap in downtown offerings. Potential sites under consideration include downtown buildings with two-level atriums that connect street and skyway levels, which could offer ideal layouts for the playground.
Public feedback has emphasized the importance of affordable admission and easy transit access to the facility. Parents envision the playground as a space where they can enjoy nearby amenities like coffee shops and restaurants while their children play. A feasibility study is currently underway, with results expected later this year.
